A/Prof Carlos Garcia-Esperon

A/Prof Carlos Garcia-Esperon is a stroke neurologist and mid career researcher at John Hunter Hospital and Metro North Queensland. He undertook his clinical training in Spain, Switzerland and Australia. He completed a dissertation at the University of Bern, followed by a PhD at the University of Newcastle in the field of brain perfusion.

He is originally from rural Spain. This made him steer the focus of his career towards enhancing access to reperfusion therapies for rural Australians. He is currently the Director of the Acute Stroke Services at the John Hunter Hospital and the Director of Queensland Telestroke Services.
