Prof Neil Spratt

Professor Neil Spratt is a Senior Staff Specialist in Neurology at John Hunter Hospital, former director of Acute Stroke Services and co-director of Neurology, laboratory head of the translational stroke laboratory at the University of Newcastle, and recent past co-director of the heart and stroke program, Hunter Medical Research Institute.

His research career is focussed on stroke, in particular the translation of laboratory findings into clinical trials and practice. His research interests span the basic science/clinical interface, including intracranial pressure and effects on collateral flow post-stroke, hypothermia, environmental enrichment, paramedic training and triage and telestroke. He is chief medical officer of a recent Newcastle/Harvard collaborative biomedical spinout company, shearflow, developing a selective collateral flow-enhancing nanotechnology for the treatment of ischemic stroke.
