Prof. dr. Gert Kwakkel

Dr. Gert Kwakkel is a professor of ‘Neurorehabilitation’ at the Amsterdam University Medical Centre in the Netherlands. His translational research is centred on uncovering the mechanisms that underpin spontaneous recovery and advancing stroke rehabilitation. Dr. Kwakkel serves as the European Editor for the NeuroRehabilitation and Neural Repair (NNR) Journal and published over 330 scientific papers (H-83 WoS). In 2018, Dr. Kwakkel was honoured with the ‘Outstanding Neurorehabilitation Clinician Scientist Award’ (ONCS) by the ‘American Society of Neurorehabilitation’ (ASNR) in San Diego, USA. More recently, he received the ‘Princess Margaret Memorial Award’ at the UK-Stroke Forum in Liverpool, UK; a lifetime achievement award that acknowledges his significant contributions to stroke research.
