AWARDS & BURSARIES

ANZSO is offered a number of awards and bursaries delegates could apply for during the abstract submission process.

Oral & Poster submissions are OPEN! Submit before 10 April. No extensions

    • Peter Bladin Award - Best Overall Early Career Presentation

    • Best “rehabilitation, recovery and life after stroke” Early Career Presentation

    • Best “acute care and health services” Early Career Presentation

    • Best “epidemiology, primary and secondary prevention” Early Career Presentation

    To be eligible the investigator must:

    • Be a current financial member of The Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation.

    • Be undergoing or having completed an accredited post-graduate/undergraduate training program, or commenced full-time academic research, whichever is most recent, no more than 5 years before the closing date for abstracts (10 April, 2026).

    • Be the first author on the paper.

    • Have contributed substantially to the design and conduct of the research study.

    • Nominate for the ANZSO New Investigator Award/Best poster new investigator award during the abstract submission process by 10 April, 2026.

    • Provide evidence of your new investigator status during the abstract submission process by 10 April, 2026.

    It is important to note that only one abstract per submitter can be nominated for these awards. Previous winners of the awards are ineligible.

    • Best “epidemiology, primary and secondary prevention” Early Career Poster

    To be eligible the investigator must:

    • Be a current financial member of The Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation.

    • Be undergoing or having completed an accredited post-graduate/undergraduate training program, or commenced full-time academic research, whichever is most recent, no more than 5 years before the closing date for abstracts (10 April, 2026).

    • Be the first author on the paper.

    • Have contributed substantially to the design and conduct of the research study.

    • Nominate the ANZSO Peter Bladin New Investigator Award during the abstract submission process by 10 April, 2026.

    • Provide evidence of your new investigator status during the abstract submission process by 10 April, 2026.

    It is important to note that only one abstract per submitter can be nominated for these awards. Previous winners of the awards are ineligible.

  • To be eligible the investigator must:

    • Be a contributing author on an abstract in any category

    • Be a Lived Expereince / Consumer Delegateto the Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation Conference 2026

    • Be undergoing or having completed an accredited post-graduate / undergraduate training program, or commenced full-time academic research, whichever is most recent, no more than 5 years before the closing date

    • Have contributed substantially to the design and conduct of the research study.

    • Be nominated by the submitting author for the award (self if primary author) include a brief statement from the submitting author supporting the nomination and outlining the input into the study.  

  • This award will be presented to the highest graded nursing abstract.

    To be eligible:

    1. Presenting author must be a nurse

    2. Evidence that presenting author is a nurse must be submitted with abstract

  • The Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation is pleased to offer multiple bursaries to help neurology and stroke registrars and fellows, or higher degree candidates (PhD, Masters) from any stroke discipline attend ANZSOC 2026.

    To be considered for this bursary you must meet the below criteria:

    • Be a current financial member of The Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation.

    • Submit an abstract for an oral or poster presentation

    • Be either be a trainee in stroke medicine (e.g. a Stroke Fellow, or Neurology trainee) or a higher degree candidate (e.g. PhD, Masters) in a stroke related discipline

    • Registered to attend ANZSOC 2026.

    The bursaries will be awarded depending on the independent scientific assessment of the submitted abstract. The ANZSO Executive will make all final decisions on these awards.

  • The Indigenous Bursary Award aims to provide financial support to individuals who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and/or Māori to attend The Australian & New Zealand Stroke Organisation Annual Scientific Meeting, as well as mentorship opportunities during (but not limited to) ANZSOC 2026.

    To be eligible the investigator must:

    • Individuals who identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander or Māori 

    • Clinicians or academics, inclusive of:

      1. Medical practitioners

      2. Nurses

      3. Allied health staff

      4. Indigenous health and community workers

      5. Tertiary students in the above fields 

    It is important to note that previous winners of the award are ineligible.

    Members may nominate for both ANZSOC general and Indigenous Bursary awards, but only one Bursary will be awarded to any individual.
